Equinox

a moment of balance,
and the promise of greater light

I’ve spent many early mornings over the last few weeks, for as long as my coffee is in hand, peeping at emerging leaves and developing buds, willing them to grow quicker! Which of course they don’t, but some mornings you can convince yourself that the tiny shots almost grow before your eyes! Spring colour brings such joy and hope after many rainy winter days, and I have at last been rewarded with some glorious flowers, and I’ve noticed among them a myriad of tiny stars.

As the equinox graces our calendars today, at 9.01am, it marks a moment in time when day and night stand in perfect balance, and it’s a great time to reflect on the natural cycles of change. The equinox reminds us that transformation is not only natural but essential - a necessary part of growth, much like the shift from winter’s dormancy to spring’s rebirth, and that the gift of time doesn’t stand still.

In many ways, equinox can serve as a metaphor for our personal journeys. Just as the earth finds a moment of equilibrium during this time, we too can create a more balanced and aligned life. The equinox is a natural turning point, marking the end of one season and the beginning of another. For those who enjoy being out and about, the warming sun and lengthening days bring with them the growing excitement of more time for play, connectedness with nature - and with one another. A lighter way of being as we put spring in our step!

Much like the shifting balance of light and dark, our lives are in constant ebb and flow, presenting us with opportunities to realign with our true purpose and with what we most value. Every period of change and transition carries both challenge and opportunity; working with a coach helps you foster greater self-awareness, and they are your accountability partner and cheerleader as you step out of your comfort zone.

When facing or creating change, coaching can be extremely useful. A coach helps you find your north star or internal compass, helping you navigate an often complex landscape. Whether you’re looking to make changes in your career, strengthen relationships, make sense of something, or discover more about who you authentically are or how want to show up in the world, coaching provides a safe space for deep conversation, and supports you to make shifts that are both meaningful and sustainable. Much like nature recalibrates itself at the equinox, coaching offers a space for reflection, for setting goals and aspirations, and the integration of balance and wellness in every aspect of life that is truly aligned and transformational. And for holding a safe space to do the explorations and work through the questions that bring you to a aligned outcome. Parker Palmer said, ‘There is a hard truth to be told: before spring becomes beautiful, it is plug ugly, nothing but mud and muck…But in that muddy mess, the conditions for rebirth are being created.’

Where is your North Star leading you?

Embracing change brings with it a whole host of emotions, yet it also holds the promise of growth. It’s often in the uncertainty and exploration that we discover new purpose, strength and potential, finding a place of harmony from imbalance, and new possibilities bloom. The equinox, with its profound symbolism, encourages us to embrace our own transformations and to celebrate the beauty of our evolving selves.

As we welcome the spring, reflect on what balance you need in for your life. Is this an invitation to begin your own journey of change or transition? What holds you back from making the change you long for, and what do you need to leave behind in order to move forward? Coaching can support your journey well and effectively, helping you flow into a new season of growth. After all, change is not just about leaving the old behind - it’s about clearing and fertilising the ground, creating space, allowing the rain, letting in the light, and even embracing that messy middle, so that something new and remarkable can emerge.

Embrace the equinox, embrace balance, embrace change. And if coaching is the much needed spark you need to harness the season’s renewing energy for creating greater fulfilment and balance, book yourself a free 20 minute session using the button below, and we can chat about how you can step boldly into the light.
